I was unprepared and unprotected.
The intensely jumbled mess overpowered me as well as the electric fear coursing through me.
And so I slept.
In my dreams I saw myself climbing aboard a large vessel of sorts.
I began to travel fast and far with strange creatures.
Though I was scared of this new sensation and these odd beings, I was exhilarated too.
Scared to leave behind all I knew, all I lost, yet accepting this turn of fate, I told myself to wake up.
The first thing I noticed was the soft sweetness enveloping me like tufts of rabbit fur smelling of lavender.
But what I saw next befuddled and shocked me.
The poison found its way into her food unintentionally.
A well-meaning gesture shrouded in ignorance.
How did I not notice?
Why did it take me so long to realize?
Now all the remedies fall short.
No miracle knocks upon the door
My insides rage as they try to escape me.
I writhe in painful terror and gently hold my dying baby girl.
Her last breath crumples me like a dry leaf as my continual pleas for forgiveness meet silence.
The ancient dust slides off my back as I shift and waken.
Lumbering forward, I barely notice the myriad of skulls my talons crush into powder.
The sun calls to me and I deeply breathe in the warmth to fill the hollow spaces of my bones.
Tornadoes form from the first few beats of my wings as I rise above the inevitable ensuing destruction.
Crisp, bright air enlivens me as does the plane of silence I soar within.
I shift my weight and the ocean is soon below me.
Drifting easily on salty airwaves, I put all my focus on the water until I find him.
His shadow grows within the water as does mine on the serene surface – so we see one another now.
I spread my talons toward the rising tentacles and we once again struggle in the Final Dance To Begin All Things Again.
