An Unfamiliar Shape – a poem

Drowning
i ask for help.
Frantically
searching for a boat,
raft,
buoy,
anything afloat.
Drowning
i see nothing
to hold onto.
My mind empties
my body relaxes
death embraces me.
In darkness below
arises
a breath of sound
i cannot name.
I welcome the unfamiliar
lifting me
into the way through.

I'd love to hear your thoughts...
